Even sadder, I have then watched them take the $3000 that it would have taken them to get started and buy those essentials of life, yes, the latest, the greatest ·I - Thingy, hell the old one is 6 months old, but it is out of date and embarrassing to be seen with. No cost recovery here! ·They then whinge that power is getting more expensive because of people with solar panels, and buy a bigger flat screen TV.

Power has been getting more expensive for decades, there is nothing new there. In Australia we are blessed with fairly reliable power, but in my lifetime that has not always been so. The late 70s early 80s · saw many a blackout. Read overseas news, most other countries have many and prolonged blackouts. Will we join them soon? Well I prefer to be prepared, hence my mix of grid connect and stand alone power systems. Last month we had three 6 hour outages in 4 days, 2 planned, ..... one not. My standby system ran the refrigerator for the duration on all three occasions. Since then I have just taken delivery of 2 additional solar panel and will mount them as soon as the mounting hardware arrives tripling the standby systems capacity.
Why not join us in making a difference, then you won't need to whinge every time lights go out or the power bill arrives. Read about the·Olduvai Theory, it could be wrong, but we are saving / making money by being prepared. This is a no lose investment decision, and a win win for the environment and our and our children's future.
Until you become a producer and cease being a consumer you will remain a prisoner of the corporations and be forced to follow their lead.
