Steel water tanks make excellent raised garden beds. We have been using a ring from a water tank for the last 5 years as a very successful garden bed. Late last year, one of our neighbours mentioned they had a couple of old water tanks, one in fairly good condition that they didn't require. So, Boxing Day morning, with the aid of a tilt tray tow truck, some muscle and ingenuity we transported the 2 tanks to our place, ready to be converted to garden beds. We worked out we could get 3 x 420mm deep x 2100mm in diameter beds from the good tank and perhaps 1 x 300mm bed from the old tank. Within a couple of hours the first bed was cut, using an angle grinder. |

We then moved it to our north facing (Sun Facing Side) useless rocky bank. The next morning after a couple of hours of excavation and levelling the bed was in place. The first bed was the bottom of the tank so numerous holes were punched through using a pick axe. Finally with the bed in place the top edge was covered with rural poly pipe slit along one side to cover the sharp edge. |
