January Update Here are some updated photos of the vegie patch we took last week. We've started planting the seedlings. The carrots have just started to poke through. We already have little capsicums, and the beans and peas are growing tall. The leafy greens are struggling a bit in the heat. |

Garden at Kimbelsea By Kim and Chelsea For Christmas we received some bean, silverbeet and lettuce seeds. We also got a gift voucher for a local hardware store. So, we decided to build an Eco-friendly vegetable garden to give us fresh, yummy things to eat. But we were stuck with a problem - how to make our viegie patch grow for US and not the Possums!. So along with our Dad we searched the shed and found our old camp shower frame to use as a cage. With our voucher we got some plastic netting and wrapped it around the shower frame and tied it with zippy ties. We made a raised vegie garden from eight planks of wood. Then we lined the bottom with newspaper, topped it with organic garden mix. During the Christmas sales we bought some extra additions to our vegie garden. We then planted the seedlings and sewed the seeds into our garden bed. We were left with some seeds that needed some special care, so we planted them into some seed raising trays. These seeds included lettuce, silverbeet and cucumber. Finally we watered them with a special low pressure hose nozzle making our vegie garden complete. We have strawberries, celery, capsicum, carrot and snow peas. We plan to take very good care of our vegie garden and are very proud to contribute to making our world cleaner and more sustainable. |
